Seatoller to Grasmere

We started off in drizzle and overcast but by the end of the day the sun was shining again. Through Borrowdale and climbing steadily to Eagle Crag after first stopping for our lunch to give us the energy for the climb. An easier climb than the previous day, and once up, a long gradual descent into far Easedale on a path that continued to wind it's way down into the peaceful village of Grasmere where we purchased the famous gingerbread and of course a nice cup of tea!

May Day Weekend

For the second stage of the walk we stayed in Grasmere. Some in the youth hostel and some in B & Bs in the village. I stayed in the youth hostel and I can personally recommend the sticky toffe pudding, which is the best I have ever had......as light as a feather!
This was a much harder stage as we walked through the beautiful passes between the mountains. The 'A' party took the high route along the High Stile Ridge but I took the less strenous alternative beside the lake and on the forest track, passing the Black Sail hostel before a steady climb up Loft Beck before the descent to Seatoller and the welcome sight of the coach to take us back to Grasmere.

St Bees to Ennerdale Water

We are walking this in stages over several months, not as a challenge walk. This way we can experience the beautiful scenery without the pain!!

The first stage was from St Bees to Ennerdale Water taking in the summit of Dent from which there are wonderful views of the Isle of Man and the first sight of the Lakeland Fells.

The Beginning

This is me at St Bees at the beginning of the walk. It is common practice to collect a pebble from the beach at the beginning and carry it across to the end at Robin Hood's Bay.

We were blessed with good weather, which was fortunate as there had been a great deal of snow the previous weekend, and there was still evidence of this beside the roads.

Coast to Coast with the CHA

Hi there, my name is Barbara and this is my personal experience of walking the Coast to Coast long distance path with my walking club Bradford CHA.
The beginning was in late March when we stayed in Cockermouth for the weekend. This is the youth hostel that some of the group stayed in. It is a converted mill with two water wheels in the grounds and situated at the end of a quiet lane on a bend in the river. A very peaceful spot indeed.
